Automation Or Personal Connections?

27 March, 2026

Marketing automation is an answer if your numbers are big. But what about 100 leads a month? What about a client database of just 75 people?

Far too often, and not just in marketing, people obsess about systems and software – building a solution.

But people are not a system. They don’t build personal connections.

I run events for a client – anywhere from 20 to 80 people. We used to run comms through email software, because it was easy. Then I switched to personal emails – no images and no HTML – just text and personal greetings. It turns out you can send 80 quick emails with a personalised intro in 20 minutes, or so.

In terms of value, there are two huge benefits. Firstly, you earn more useful engagement from someone when you’ve taken the time to make it personal. Secondly, you actually get to know the people you are talking to.

So, I guess the question is, where does the most value lie for you – systems or personal connections?
