AI displays all the naive confidence of a twenty-something sharing a ‘new’ idea to an ageing audience tired of hearing some thousand-year-old thought repackaged once again for financial gain.
This week, I had the need* to create a silhouette of The Spice Girls (*not a personal one, so that you understand). I found an image online for reference. Then, rather than head to Adobe Illustrator, my port of call since 1989, I thought I’d ask Claude to create the vectored outline for me; after all, the Anthropic marketing team had just sent me an email about the extraordinary power of Claude Design, and I find that Adobe’s own tools don’t quite cut it.
We had a conversation, and I was encouraged.
You can see the result for yourself.

I guess it’s only having learned industry experience that I know how or why things were done, that I know how to do them now, and let’s face it, in some industries, 40 years is no time at all. I also know the difference between right and wrong, good and bad, and the choice between that’ll do and that’s not good enough.
AI is eerily and worryingly incredible. Knowing how and why to use it – and when not to – well, that’s where wisdom still has currency.
Something to wonder about this weekend
